Euphoria – HBO’s Latest Must Watch Show

The ornate eye makeup, numerous penis shots and even a few short ‘Love Island’ cameos, HBO’s latest show Euphoria is nothing short of mesmerising. Wonderfully shot, a multitude of complex and layered characters based in relatable storylines on steroids and sensational music, this is a must watch.  Sam Levinson’s creativity is astonishing, with numerous method’s of storytelling across the episodes which his young cast manage to pull off with ease.  Zendaya leads the pack, playing Rue, a recovering high school drug addict, who narrates the show. However, as good as Zendaya is, plenty of this young cast could stake a claim for best character of the series, and none more so than Angus Cloud, who plays Fezco, the local drug

How Stormzy Conquered Glastonbury

“How can he headline Glastonbury?” Stormzy quotes much of the British public to JAY Z in what feels like a secret location, the camera titled at an awkward angle, almost as if it is not supposed to be there. This is how thought through Stormzy’s set was, was that camera angle a coincidence? Definitely not. “It is important for you to take that and say “okay how can I create a culture around this whole thing” because culture moves the world” JAY Z demands of his young counter part. You can see from the conversation, Stormzy is angry about why his talent and ability is being questioned by so many. Stormzy’s performance is arguably the most important in Glastonbury history,

The Critics’ Picks – February 2019 Edition

Critic: Matt Evans Pick: Six Nations – England Vs Wales After a less than impressive 26-15 victory at the Stadio Olimpico, Wales equalled the longest unbeaten run in their 138-year Test Match Victory. 11 wins on the bounce for Gatland’s men. Between October 10h 2015 and March 11th 2017, England equalled the tier-one record for successive victories with 18 in a row. The wheels quickly came off England’s sweet chariot in 2018 though. But they’ve now been swiftly been repaired (much like England’s injury list). My point? Records and stats will largely go out the window in this Anglo-Welsh battle. The Millennium Stadium, as it is formally – and better – known, is a colosseum and provides the best atmosphere

The Critics’ Picks – January 2019 Edition

Every month, ‘The Critic’s Chair’ writers will be making their picks on what you should keep your eyes out for. You can also check out our picks for October, November and December 2018 below: October November December Here are our selections for January…  Critic: Jack Channings Pick: Brexit Over the course of February, and on into March, the Brexit negotiations will be going mental. With Parliament voting against delaying our exit, but also voting against a no-deal scenario, and now the EU maintaining their position that re-negotiations aren’t viable, the government is going to have to pull something extraordinary out of the bag in the next six weeks. Britain’s exit is an unprecedented event in EU history, meaning there is

The Critics’ Picks – 2018 TV Show Of The Year

Critic: Tom Roberts Pick: Succession Imagine Game of Thrones in the world of business. That is the essence of this new HBO show. The show sees ageing businessman Logan Roy and his children battle over his company, Waystar Royco, with all the characters making their own political chess moves to increase their power. What really draws me to the story is it is not as simple as good people against bad people, all the characters have their own flaws. In one moment, you can go from loving one character to thinking they are an utter dick or vice versa. This has the makings of a world-class TV show, I could not recommend it highly enough.  Critic: Max McGrath Pick: Sunderland

The Critics’ Picks – 2018 Film Of The Year

Critic: Jack Channings Pick: Black Panther Black Panther has two things that automatically make it a great film. It essentially has the plot of The Lion King and a Kendrick Lamar soundtrack. The film follows Prince Tchalla as he struggles with the responsibility of becoming King and The Black Panther, especially under the pressure from family claimants to the throne in the form of Michael B. Jordon, on a lot of steroids and with some mad tribal scars. One of the most quotable films of the year with some excellent action sequences and crazy CGI rhinos. The standout character, however, is without a doubt tribal leader M’baku, with my favourite scene being his tribe’s intimidation of Martin Freeman’s character in

The Critics’ Picks – 2018 Podcast Of The Year

Critic: Luke McLoughlin Pick: The Rugby Pod A must-listen for any rugby fan, even those with even the smallest interest. Hosted by ex-players Andy Goode and Jim Hamilton and an excellent presenter in Andy Rowe, the podcast is not loaded full of geeky ‘rugby’ chat, but instead a hilarious recollection of stories in various players careers. The trio also speaks to current and ex-players, discussing whether or not players have a ‘hell of a piece’ or are ‘hung like a squirrel’ and many more amusing gags. Alongside a recap of weekends results and previewing future fixtures it has the perfect captive for both the ultra-keen rugby fan and the ‘I watch the six nations and the World Cup’ rugby fan.

Breaking Down THAT Game Of Thrones Clip

With HBO releasing a preview for some of their upcoming shows in 2019, Game Of Thrones fans have gone mad for a whole 3 seconds of footage showing Daenerys in Winterfell for the first time. So what can we take from this? Absolutely nothing. The Game of Thrones marketing team really do have the easiest job in the World. I suppose it’s interesting that Sansa tells Daenerys “Winterfell is yours”, the same words her father said to Robert Baratheon in the pilot episode, except Sansa seems a bit more bitter. Obviously, there’s going to be some initial conflict between Sansa and Westeros’ most boring couple Jon & Daenerys, but they’ll get over it within an episode or so for a

The Critics’ Picks – 2018 Album Of The Year

Critic: Tom Roberts Pick: Pusha T – Daytona Pusha T’s ‘Daytona’ is an instant modern-day classic. Suppressed to seven tracks and a runtime of 21 minutes and eight seconds, you will not be disappointed. Pusha snarls his brags over Kanye West’s production, confidently asserting himself amongst the top five and with albums like this, he may have a claim. ‘If You Know You Know’ is a fantastic way to kick start the album, having Pusha freestyle before being suddenly dropped into a Kanye beat. Then finishing with Infrared, which is a fantastic chess move, enticing Drake to bite before finishing him off with an absolutely savage diss track (The Story of Adidon). If you haven’t listened then you must, otherwise,
